Auto Insurance

When it comes to getting quality low cost auto insurance for your crossover vehicle (or any other vehicle you own), you'll want to take a number of steps that can save you hundreds of dollars a year.

If you're like most people, you are doing business with the same auto insurance company today as when you first signed up for an auto insurance policy. If this is the case, you are likely paying much more for your auto insurance that you could be paying.

If you haven't compared your auto insurance rates within the last year, it will be well worth your time to do so. Even if you are perfectly satisfied with your current auto insurance company, you can most likely reduce what you're currently paying even without ever changing insurance companies simply by finding a better auto insurance rate from a competitor.

Before you begin to search for better auto insurance rates, you need to find your current auto insurance policy. It's important to have your auto insurance policy because necessary you need to know your current insurance rates and the types of coverage your current auto insurance policy covers. If you aren't sure where your insurance policy is, take a minute to call your insurance agent and have a copy of your policy sent to you.

Once you have your current auto insurance policy in hand, you have the information in front of you which you'll need to do a quick Internet auto insurance comparison search. There are a huge number of comparison sites on the Internet and below are just a few of those out there.

You will want to do the comparison with more than one site. These are free to do, so all it will cost you is a bit of time. Although most of the auto insurance comparison sites will give you a number of results, there are a couple of reasons you want to do comparison searches on a number of different sites. First, different comparison sites may have different auto insurance companies in their data base meaning if you only do a single comparison search, you may be missing a lower rate elsewhere. Secondly, each comparison site may use different characteristics when giving you an insurance. For example, one site may give you an insurance quote by searching your traffic records for the past 3 years while another one may look at your driving record the past 5 years.

Here are a few sites where you can begin your search:

Progressive Auto Insurance or call 1-800-PROGRESSIVE

esurance.com

Insurance.com

And a couple of discount auto insurance companies that are often left out of the comparison sites:

Geico Auto Insurance

21st Century Insurance Company

If you want more comparison sites, a simple search for auto insurance comparison will give you more.

At the auto insurance comparison sites, input the exact same coverage that you are carrying on your current auto insurance policy. This should give you insurance quotes from several auto insurance companies and you can see if any of the results give you a better rate than you're currently receiving. If you get results that are better than your current auto insurance rate, you have put yourself in the driver's seat, so to speak, to getting a better deal. Even if they don't, there are still some other other opportunities to reduce your current auto insurance rates.

If you find a rate that is better than your current rate, print it out and save it in a folder. if you like your current auto insurance company, give them a call and explain that you have found a rate that is better than theirs. Say that you like the service and you were wondering if they could match that price. Even if your current insurance company can't match the best offer, they will likely offer you a better rate than you are currently receiving. You can decide from their offer whether it's better to stay with them or switch your auto insurance to a new company.

If you don't find any rates better than your current rate, don't despair. This is actually good news because it means you haven't been overpaying up until this point on your auto insurance. There are also a number of other steps that you can take (look at the ideas in the left hand column) that can possible lower your auto insurance rates.
